During the celebration of International Women’s Day in March 2024, CESRUD decided to conduct a one-day sensitization talk at Abule –Eruwa Ayete Community at Ibarapa Local Government Area (LGA) Oyo State Nigeria. Globally, March 8 is a day set aside to mark as International Women’s Day, this year’s theme was “Inspire Inclusion: Invest in Women Accelerate Progress”.
In attendance where 45 rural women who showed gratitude to CESRUD for celebrating them in their community. The event was organized as a sensitization talk which featured three speakers addressing issues like Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs) which is key to Climate change and Food Security; Financial Education, and Parenting Skills.
The rationale behind facilitating this activity was because the rural women are at the fore front of food production even though they face social and economic discrimination hence they lack access to productive resources. Strengthening the food systems to militate against hunger and malnutrition cannot be overemphasized in ensuring food security. Awareness on agricultural best practices, food security and nutrition; processing and marketing skills are subject matters to draw the attention of the women to in order that they will be empowered. The importance of parenting skills cannot be ignored as women play the crucial role of taking care of the household. This event decided to make these subjects of discussion at this occasion.
